When a lead tells you they're “not interested right now”—but not permanently out—it should be marked as Not Yet Interested (NYI). This status is designed to pause marketing for that property while preserving the lead for future re-engagement.

This guide explains what NYI means, how it affects fulfillment, and how we follow up.

What Is NYI?

NYI stands for Not Yet Interested and is used to identify:

  • Property owners who ask to be contacted later

  • Leads that are currently inactive but not disqualified

  • Prospects with temporary objections (e.g., “call me in 6 months”)

It is a temporary pause, not a disqualification or opt-out.

How to Tag a Property as NYI

If you're working the leads manually (phone, email, SMS) and a contact expresses NYI-type feedback:

  1. Go to the property record in Salesmate.

  2. Add the tag: NYI

  3. (Optional) Include the expected re-engagement time in the Notes section.

  4. Update the Phone Status to reflect the conversation (e.g., “Not yet interested”).

Pro Tip: Be specific in notes. Example: “Said they’re interested next quarter—wants to hold until after tax season.”

What Happens After a Property Is Marked NYI?

Once tagged:

  • The property is removed from active fulfillment (mail, SMS, skip trace).

  • Your CSM will review and archive it, preserving all history.

  • The property will be added to a re-engagement list for future outreach.

  • A follow-up task may be scheduled based on the notes you added.

Re-Engagement Workflow

At the defined time (e.g., 30, 60, or 90 days later), the system or your CSM will:

  • Create a task to review the property.

  • Reach out again (email, call, or SMS) using updated templates.

  • Reactivate the lead if there's renewed interest.

You’ll be notified when the lead returns to active fulfillment.

Common Questions

Can I still contact an NYI lead manually?
Yes. The tag only pauses automated fulfillment. You can call or email anytime.

What if the lead becomes interested earlier?
Simply remove the NYI tag and update the notes. The property will re-enter active campaigns.

Is NYI the same as Do Not Contact?
No. DNC is permanent. NYI is temporary and part of a nurture strategy.

Where can I see my NYI properties?
Use filters or saved views in Salesmate with the tag NYI or ask your CSM for an export.
